Sixteen Indian crew members of a cargo vessel detained for over nine months in Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria have returned home after the Indian government negotiated with authorities. The MT Heroic Idun oil tanker and its 26 crew members were detained since August 2020, accused of theft. However, all charges were dropped and the ship was released on May 27 after payment of fines. India's government took up the issue with foreign authorities, ensuring regular food for the crew and access to their families, while working with the shipping company for legal representation.
