ClassNK, a Japanese classification society, has published guidelines and a list of fire safety measures to enhance the safety of transporting electric vehicles (EVs) by sea. The guidelines provide information on responding to EV fires and include requirements for vessels equipped with additional firefighting measures. The list presents 40 measures for early detection, suppression, prevention, and extinguishing of fires. ClassNK will update both documents in line with research findings and industry trends to improve safety measures for maritime transport of EVs.
