Gaps in the U.S. Approach to Indian Ocean Security - Council on Foreign Relations

The United States has shifted its strategy to recognize the importance of the Indian Ocean to national and international security. It has increased cooperation with India for logistics and supply, as well as improving its own technology and facilities in the region. However, the US has been slow to extend cooperation to other Indian Ocean states. India has become a major vector for greater US investment into Indian Ocean security, with recent maritime cooperation agreements allowing for the US Navy to use Indian ports. The US is also improving intelligence information flows and facilities in the region.
